The solar van

Three technical pillars combine to make Soleva a demonstrator of sustainable mobility: electric conversion, the on-board solar system and the low-carbon habitat.

Electric conversion

Rather than producing a new vehicle, Soleva relies on retrofit: keeping a 1987 Peugeot J9, removing the diesel engine and tank, and integrating a complete electric powertrain. This approach extends the vehicle's lifespan and reduces the impact related to manufacturing.

  • Combustion engine replaced by an electric motor (Nissan, second-hand)
  • 8 refurbished Volkswagen battery modules - 55 kWh
  • Estimated range: around 250 km

On-board solar system

The technological heart of Soleva is its innovative photovoltaic system. Developed by CSEM in collaboration with the EPFL PV-Lab, the lightweight, deployable solar panels produce the energy needed for driving and life on board. Thanks to V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) technology, the van becomes a mobile solar power station capable of powering events, festivals and public services.
